In this space I exhibit and share my experiments with my hobbies – cooking and photography. Apart from my native Sri Lanka, I have lived in Singapore and Malaysia, before moving to Switzerland recently.
My cooking style is influenced by my Jaffna roots (in Northern Sri Lanka) and by the culinary traditions of the countries I have lived. It also continues to evolve and improve with my travel experiences as I try out different cuisines from across the world. Interestingly, Northern Sri Lankan culinary traditions are quite similar to that of Kerala in India despite sharing the same language and culture with Tamil Nadu in India. You will find generous use of coconut cream, shredded coconut, spices and rice flour in our cuisine. And yes, it is mostly gluten free!
My second hobby, photography, is a more recent interest that emerged as a by-product of my efforts to improve the quality of photographs on my food blog. I now maintain a page with my non-food photographs on Facebook. You can check it out at https://www.facebook.com/PhotosbyAbi.
I currently use a Canon DSLR 600D with 18-135mm and 50IImm lenses. Photographs taken with the DSLR camera can be found from this post onwards. I consistently strive for perfection and am presently trying as much as possible to replace my old photos with better images taken using the DSLR. Hopefully I will succeed in making you drool over my food photos!
You wouldn’t find that many sweet or dessert recipes in my blog as I'm not a sweet tooth person and I often crave for spicy / savory food. However, I do love baking cakes and I often find an excuse to bake for a friend/ occasion (Check out my facebook page for my experiments with cakes and desserts) I also use oven for roasting vegetables for soups, salads and even curries, which as I have found out is a healthier and tastier alternative to deep frying.
